Awake and up I face a brand new day
I pour the milk upon my breakfast bowl
I wash my dish and put it safe away
This aching hip may finally take its toll

I pour the milk upon my breakfast bowl
Did I wake up too late it seems like night
This aching hip may finally take its toll
Perhaps it’s time for bed; I’ll say goodnight.

Did I wake up too late it seems like night
We’ve lots to do today so let us go
Perhaps it’s time for bed; I’ll say goodnight
I fought in World War II friend did you know?

We’ve lots to do today so let us go
I brush my teeth and take my morning pills
I fought in World War II friend did you know?
I’ll sit here now and pay my monthly bills

I brush my teeth and take my morning pills
I should eat breakfast now but I’m so full
I’ll sit here now and pay my monthly bills
The plane shot holes into our precious hull

I should eat breakfast now but I’m so full
I’m headed back to Texas here real soon
The plane shot holes into our precious hull
You know there was an eclipse of the moon

I’m headed back to Texas here real soon
I need new shoes to heal my aching feet
You know there was an eclipse of the moon
It’s six o’clock now, time for us to eat

I wash my dish and put it safe away
Awake and up I face a brand new day

He served in the Pacific on two different ships and is a recipiant of a purple heart.
