You'll
look at her as the music begins to play
And your mind will fill with the images of times gone by
The feeding and diapering as you grew to know each other
The toilet training and the first day of school
The empty feeling deep in your gut as she began to draw away
Flexing her own sense of self.
Fresh
in mind are memories of recent years
The trials, the worry--
Would she EVER see what she was doing to herself?
And then, finally, she came around and began acting
Like a real adult and you were just a bit scared.
But you were proud too.
Watch
closely as she looks at him...
Nervous.
Looking a bit out of place
But still willing to make the commitment.
You'll cry quietly with the realization
That there is a new man in her life.
You are no longer number one, and it hurts a bit,
But you'll be OK, your time will come again
For this is how grandfathers are born.
