Comments: Hello Brenda. What a very beautiful site you created for your mother! I only just this week got a site up for my grandmother. I cared for her through Alzheimers, as did my husband for his mother. Last year we opened Bay-Spirit Acres Assisted Living Home, for Alzheimers victims, to live with us in our own home. This coming June 1, we are opening The Anna May House, right next door, dedicated to my Gram. Please visit our web sites. There is a link from the one I listed above for Anna May House, to Bay-Spirit Acres House. We would be honored if you would sign our guest book.

Comments: I accidentally found your beautiful memorial page to your mother. My mother, just having recently been diagnosed with Alzheimer's and Dementia, (and Schizophrenia a year ago), I understand where you're coming from. My mother's younger sister is in the final Alzheimer stages and doesn't know anyone. She made a final trip back to Hawaii last summer, and we have it on film. There are evidences of the disease. Last October my mother was very ill and not having seen her for more than 17 days out of the past 26 years, I wanted to see her, possibly for the last time, while she still knew me. I took my 22 year old son, who was one of two children born in Ohio, the other two having been born in Hawaii. Not having been with my parents for almost half of my life, my father is 87 and my mother 75, I feel really bad about not being there to help my sister and brother bear all the burden and to spend their last days with them. I feel so grateful to have come upon this website and can share some of it with my family in Hawaii, and my family here can learn a great deal about what everyone is going through. At one time I was a caregiver to AD patients. It is much tougher when it involves a close family member. Your tribute to your mother and the dedication you showed her gives me such respect and love for you. It also makes me feel a little closer to my own AD mother. God bless you and your family greatly. He heals all things. Judy

Comments: Brenda, Your page is wonderful, your Mother would have been very proud of you. My Mother died of Alzheimer's disease on June 12, l997 and I can relate to your poetry. My Mother moved in with me when my Father could not handle her anymore, she lived with me for two and a half years till she could not walk any more, and then I had to put her in a nursing home till she passed away. I am still crying after reading your poetry, so true for me. Take care of yourself, Fanny (e mail--FannyPoop@aol.com)

Comments: I just wanted to let you know what a wonderful site you have. My husband & I have been caring for his grandmother with Alzheimers, for almost 3 years now. We live in a very small town with few if any resources for us. I found your site by accident and am so glad I did. You have some very helpful links. I just started my own page about alzheimers about 3 weeks ago. I invite you to stop by when you get a chance. I have also added a link to your page. Thanks again!

Comments: What a beautiful tribute to your mother. I lost my father to Alzheimers March 2, 1997. Actually, I lost him the September before. My mother had him placed in a mental institution, because he had gotten hard for her to handle. He fell and broke his hip again, and was never the same. A few days before he died he was placed at a Hospice facility and I went to see him. My childhood home was NC so I had not seen him for a month or so. He had a temperature (pneumonia) and I placed my head on his chest to listen to his heart. I was looking into his eyes as I lifted my head up, and he recognized me for just an instance and he said "I love." My father was such a wonderful man. I never thought he would die like this. He was 42 when I was born so I had always worried about him dying. I miss him a lot. This site is a comfort for me. his favorite song was "How Great Thou Art"

Comments: This is the second time I have looked at your website. I linked to it from the URL on your recent AUTOCAT message. I like the improvements and additions. You are to be commended for your love, dedication, and personal sacrifice in order to care for your mother. Old fashioned family values and sacrificial love are regretably taking a backseat to the "me first at all costs" mentality being seen so often in today's more and more secular society. Your heartwarming love and devotion shines through your website. All the links to other Alzheimer's sites are a great public service. May the Lord bless and keep you and yours and help you continue to be a shining example of good ol' fashioned Christian and family love. You are also to be commended in your perseverence in pursuit of a library career.

Comments: Dear Brenda, I am sorry that you had to go through the pain and loss of your mother. My Aunt Donna just put her husband of 45 years in the hospital after he became very abusive both physically and mentally. I am trying to find out all I can to try to help her. Your journal was very touching. I am very lucky that I have both my parents who are both of sound body and mind and I am not sure that I will be able to handle it if they are inflicted with such a crippling disease as Alzheimers. I think that keeping a journal would be a real healer Again, time is a great healer and we should always remember the good times, they seem to help us through the bad times. All the best to you and your family. Sherri

Comments: I was looking for poetry written by mothers to their sons and came upon your page. I cried all the way through, yet never stopped reading it. Your Mother was very fortunate to have such love. I know you must have had terrible pain and feelings of guilt that always come after the loss of a loved one, but you have nothing to feel guilty about. Your Mother must be very proud of the good job she did raising her children. Continue to remember the good times and don't linger on the bad. Your page made me realize that I don't take advantage of my Mother still being here and alert and well. She lives alone in Calif. and I don't call her enough. Thank you for that. God bless you and give you peace that should come with knowing you were there for her when she needed you. Love passes all barriers and gets through, even though you may not know it, or she may not have been able to show it....she knew, and she felt it. Francine:)

Comments: Brenda, I must say that you have a great website & very informative. My mother was diagnosed with Alzheimers 2 months ago & she is only 63 years of age. I had a hard time dealing with my father who passed away 7 years ago from lung cancer & always felt that my mother never completely recovered. I have to say that the Alzheimer Society of Canada has been a great help. I will be attending a family support group this week & hope that it answers some of my questions concerning long term care. In the meantime I have read a couple of books & now your webpage, which has educated me further. I am truly (from the heart) sorry for your loss & hope that you continue with your webpage& work.

Comments: Dear Brenda; As I read your journal I wished I had kept my own through my grandmother in laws two years with us. I'm a LPN and have been employed as Executive Director of facilities that specialize in the care of persons with Alzheimer's and related Dementias. You never realize what this disease does to a family until it hits home. Like you I attempted to keep grandma at home with us until it became unsafe. She was frequently falling and at times after a rough day I slept through her getting up. I was mad at myself that as a professional who was very competent I could not manage to provide care to grandma. In addition my 10 year old son was scared to death that grandma would get injured. Grandma lived at our facility until we were forced to place her in a nursing home. One week after placing her in the nursing home she fell and required plastic surgery on her face. You want to know what guilt is all about. We all had unrealistic expectations for the nursing home staff as I found out when I went to work in the nursing home that grandma was in. Grandma died on October 13, 1997, I left the nursing home within a month and now have a position with an Assisted Living Facility in Bradenton, FL that is Alzheimer's & Dementia only. I frequently search the net for information for the family support groups. Your dedication to your mother will I'm sure help others. It helped me!!! I wish the best for you and lets hope that time will help restore the pleasent times for all of us.

I was taking care of her until my father's dementia grow (combativeness, catastrophic outbursts, paranoia, etc.) I was afraid he would attack me. My sister has a history of violent behavior and assaulted me on several occasions which kept me away from my parents' home when she was there. But, when my father had by-pass, various hospitalizations, and vascular surgeries, I and then my mother broke her hip and was diagnosed with cancer, I had to do what I could to help, which put me in close contact with my sister with her own mental problems, I eventually was chased away from my dear mother by my father, who was egged on by my sick sister. Very hard times. When you say how each time with your mother was so special, I understand. My father's dementia kept me from being with my mother during the last two months of her life, but I try to remember our very special times together. She was very special. I think I know how you felt regarding school. I was in school, too, and dropped my classes because I needed to be with her. I will never regret that although I do not feel ready to go back and resume the heavy studying...I would like to know how you feel and how long it took for you to feel ready to go back. Comments: Dear Brenda, Thanks so much for creating and sharing this wonderful site with everyone. Your poetry is absolutely beautiful. My Grandmother has dementia...and is in a Nursing Home now. I visit her often...and I can relate to many things that you've written. You've just inspired me to start keeping a journal on my grandmother. My kids are both in school now...and I visit her more than anyone else in the family. She's always been very special to me. I have a website about our healing friends the dolphins. The dolphins are helping me do some of my own healing from PTSD. I hope to hear from you. Take Care....and have a beautiful day.

Comments: Hi, I am in my first year of community college after graduating high school and doing a report on Alzheimer's Disease. I found your website very interesting and helpful. I am currently working at a adult care home and have recently worked at a nursing home facility for the last year. This is familiar to me but yet this information was interesting. Thank you for your website and I will be sure to return for future reference.

Comments: Your site is awesome. God bless you! I wonder what it would be like to have someone like taking care of my needs when I am in need. My mother passed away December 26, 1983 at the age of 59. Her mother passed away October, 1965 at the age of 58. Not from alzheimer's; but I have a fear and dread that I may be in the early stages of alzheimer's disease and am anxious to know all I can, while I can about the disease. I have worked for the long term care industry for the last 20 years.

Comments: What a wonderful tribute to your mother. I can tell from your homepage that you are a wonderful person. My father recently passed away with lung cancer at the age of 55. Your journal was a tear jerker for me, as i took care of my dad, along with other family members. I am a nurse, but that only made it harder as his new begining was approaching. Thanks for allowing me to snoop into your life....i greatly enjoyed it and needed the cry!!

The Woodro has left a WARM SPOT on your guestbook thingy!
Your page is an excellent and heartwarming tribute to your mother. We hope that somehow Jimmy Buffett will come across
this page as his father has Alzeimer's Disease also. The content/info you have compiled would be very helpful to him.
Please visit The Woodro's Good Fight
It is a page/diary dedicated to our dog's current fight against lung cancer. Thank you for your caring compassion.
This world needs more like you.

Comments: Brenda: I know what you went through while caring for your mother. My wife took care of her grandmother for two years before she had to be admitted to a nursing home. Then, a few years later, her grandfather started showing signs of Alzheimer's. She took care of him for almost four years before moving him to a nursing home in Florida. I'm taking classes toward a college degree through a program at work (the company I work for is cooperating with Vincennes University to make this program happen). I'm doing a report for Psychology on Alzheimer's and the effects it has on the family (caregivers) of the victim. Thank you for making all of your experiences available for others to see so they can have an idea of what to expect, and so they can know that they aren't alone. We could have used this resource a lot ten years ago.

Comments: Every now and then, all to infrequently it seems sometimes, my travels on Web take me to a site that really shows what someone can do with this medium. It takes a lot of guts to tell a story like this to the entire planet, but you did a good thing for your mother and more people should be like this. Keep up the good work.

Comments: Dear Brenda, I just wanted to be sure that you know what a nice job you have done with this page. I found it because of Site Fites when I went there to vote for a cyber-friend. I checked out the others and voted for you too! And I've sent your address on to a friend who has begun the long and difficult task of assisting her mother as she becomes less able to do for herself. I was sorry to see that most of the voters must be young and ready for "lighter" things -- someday they too will see the importance of your site. Thanks for doing all this gathering for us. I hope that you found comfort in doing the project. Kristy
