She has Alzheimer's Disease and is living in an assisted living facility in New York City. She speaks minimal English. First language is Greek. Am now attempting to move her to a dementia oriented facility near me in Minnesota. I foresee many problems related to language and culture but do not know what else to do. Thanks. |

I don't know what to say. I read your journal entries, your poetry and I vsited every page here. How scary it must have been. How strange and uncomfortable it must have been. I wish I knew what brought the disease on. I am afraid my mother will go through the same thing. We don't have any hstory of it in our family, so I thought we were safe, and I have been excusing the slight lapse of memory to "old age." Well... after readimg that you did the same thing, I am becoming worried. I still don't think that my mom has the disease, but I do know now that I had better watch ths more closely. By the way, I love your page so much that you get the award from me that you applied for. You will receive a confirmation in email with the code to place somewhere on your pages. Thank you so much for this beautiful page. I must admit I cried a bit reading your journal. I think it is wonderful that you had the strength to care for a person who you loved so dearly - who didn't even know who you were. |
